Social and environmental commitment
At BAAMTU, we believe that technological progress must be accompanied by a deep commitment to society and the environment. As a leading player in digital transformation, data and artificial intelligence in West Africa, we recognize our responsibility in building a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable future.
This social and environmental responsibility policy reflects our commitment to aligning all our activities—from strategic consulting to the implementation of technological solutions—with a focus on positive impact. It applies to all BAAMTU Group entities, in all the countries where we operate, as well as to our partners and suppliers.
True to our mission of modernizing public administration, strengthening local capacities and optimizing information systems for sustainable development, we implement solutions that:
- respect the fundamental rights of citizens,
- promote digital inclusion,
- contribute to the reduction of inequalities,
- and minimize the environmental footprint of technology.
This policy formalizes our social and environmental commitments, while defining the principles and implementation mechanisms that will guide our decisions, projects, and relationships with our stakeholders. It provides a framework for evaluating our actions, promoting transparency, and strengthening our positive impact on the ecosystems we support.
Our social and environmental commitments
Social commitments
As a technology company based in West Africa, BAAMTU works to ensure that digital development benefits all populations. Our social impact is based on four pillars:
Digital inclusion and equity of access
We design accessible and multilingual solutions (French, Wolof, etc.) to reduce the digital divide and promote the inclusion of marginalized populations, including women, young people and people with low literacy.
Local employment and capacity building
We prioritize local recruitment, talent training, and skills transfer. Our projects systematically integrate skills development components for national teams, particularly through coaching, professional and technical training, and e-learning platforms.
Protection of digital rights
We develop our systems in compliance with the fundamental rights of users as specified by the Commission for the Protection of Personal Data ( https://www.cdp.sn/ ): confidentiality, data security, digital sovereignty.
Our architectures take into account local and international requirements regarding the protection of personal data.
Ethics of AI and digital technology
We ensure that the algorithms deployed are understandable, fair, and non-discriminatory.
Environmental commitments
Aware of the environmental impact of digital infrastructures, we are working to limit our carbon footprint and promote environmentally friendly practices through the following areas:
Eco-designed solutions and low-cost infrastructure
Our cloud, AI and data architectures are designed to be energy efficient, using optimization mechanisms (containers, resource sharing, serverless architectures) and collaborating with responsible suppliers.
Responsible mobility and digitalization
We are reducing travel through hybrid models (teleworking, online workshops) and promoting dematerialization in our internal operations and client projects to limit the use of paper and unnecessary logistics flows.
Responsible management of materials and waste
We encourage the reuse and sustainable management of IT equipment. We select our partners and suppliers based on ethical and environmental criteria, favoring short supply chains, local businesses, and committed service providers.
Governance and implementation
The implementation of our social and environmental responsibility policy is based on clear governance, defined responsibilities and a collective commitment at all levels of the company.
Management Responsibility
BAAMTU's General Management bears ultimate responsibility for implementing this policy. It ensures that commitments are translated into concrete actions in the strategy, projects, and internal processes of each entity within the group.
Each founder coordinates the implementation of the policy at his level, through the teams he supervises: technical, HR, sales or projects. This distributed governance allows real appropriation of CSR commitments and their direct integration into daily operations.
Integration into projects and offers
Each project led by BAAMTU integrates our social and environmental commitments into its key phases:
➤ Technical architecture
- Solution design energy-efficient, using mechanisms such as containers, resource sharing or serverless architectures.
- Integration of local and international requirements for the protection of personal data in the choice of infrastructures and in processing flows.
- Deployment ofunderstandable, fair and non-discriminatory algorithms, when a layer of artificial intelligence is mobilized.
➤ Operational organization
- Favoring dispositifs hybrides (in-person, teleworking, online workshops) to limit travel and carbon impact.
- Ensure a upgrading the skills of local resources, through mentoring, training or support for junior profiles.
- Give the priority to local recruitment, particularly in projects carried out on a national scale.
- Develop accessible and multilingual solutions (French, Wolof, etc.), adapted to the sociolinguistic contexts of the beneficiaries.
- Promoting dematerialization in our operations and those of our customers, in order to reduce the use of paper and unnecessary logistics flows.
Monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement
At BAAMTU, we consider social and environmental responsibility as a evolutionary processWe have not yet institutionalized comprehensive CSR reporting tools, but we are putting in place concrete practices that allow us to progress and learn from our actions.
Informal feedback in the teams
Project managers, technical leads and functional managers share good practices and points of vigilance during project reviews or internal workshops. This feedback contributes to develop our methods, particularly in terms of inclusion, digital sobriety or respect for data.
Pragmatic and progressive approach
We take an approach pragmatic : rather than imposing rigid indicators, we are gradually integrating responsibility reflexes in our projects. This includes, for example:
- documentation of optimization measures in our technical architectures,
- promoting the skills development of local teams,
- promoting the skills development of local teams,
Commitment to further structure monitoring
Aware of the need to further formalize our practices, we plan in the medium term to:
- implement simple indicators to better monitor our social and environmental impacts,
- integrate CSR elements into our project reports,
- strengthen team awareness of these issues.
Approbation
This Social and Environmental Responsibility Policy formalizes BAAMTU's commitments to inclusion, technological ethics, and sustainability. It provides a framework for our teams, partners, and clients.
It is approved by the General Management and applies to all entities of the BAAMTU group, in all countries of operation.
We are committed to ensuring its dissemination, encouraging its adoption at all levels of the organization, and adapting it based on feedback and changes in practices.
